New Personal Century Record.
It wasn't a race winning time but I will take it. 4hours 51 mins. Saturday was my first century since Jan 27 and since that time I had only been up to 65 miles twice. The ride got blown up at mile 6 by a teammate who loves playing the spoiler. At the time I was a bit angry but at mile 32 I realized the wisdom. The problem was at the time of his attack, I was 20 riders back with half an unchewed power bar in my mouth which I couldn't chew while I covered the gap created. When I covered the gap. A second attack went off and I got dropped. I couldn't follow that so I tried to figure out what I was going to do: wait up for some more riders or chase. I chased. So for the next 5 miles another rider and I chased, spurred on by seeing riders drop off the back of the breakaway. The whole time the power bar was lodged in my esophogus. Today is Weds. and I still have a bruise in the esophogus. During the chase I was really angry at the fact that I was over 90% of my max HRT knowing that any minute I was going to blow up. It was pretty satsifying after we caught the breakaway and we got settled in. The tough part was after being in the red so long I didn't know how long I could stay strong. At mile 40 we were down to 3 guys. At the turn around we saw the group chasing us, and for the next hour the motorcycle who rode in front of us would drop back and give us a report. We didn't feel comfortable that we would stay away until mile 70 when we were told the chase group was falling apart and they had stopped at the rest. The last 20 miles was tough.....really tough. I had to use all my ninja mind tricks to not have to stop and rest the leg cramps. I finished 3rd.
